the element of trust

The element of trust
1.         You are in a situation where a choice to trust another person can lead to either beneficial or harmful consequences for your needs and goal.
2.       You realize that whether beneficial consequences or harmful consequences result depends on the action of another person.
3.       You expect to suffer more if the harmful consequences result than you will gain if the beneficial consequences result.
4.       You feel relatively consident that the other person will behave in such a way that the beneficial consequences will result.
What is trust and how do you create it? Trust is a word everyone uses, yet it is a complex concept and difficult to define. Trust is dynamic. It is an aspect of relationships and constantly changes and varies. Every action each member takes increases or decreases the trust level in the group.
Making a choice to trust another member involves the perseptions that:
a.       The choice can lead to gains or losses
b.       Whether you will gain or lose depends on the behave of the other members.
c.       The loss will be greather than the gain
d.       The other member will probably behave in such a way that you will gain rather than lose.

 Membangun kepercayaan interpersonal
BEING TRUSTING AND TRUSTWORTHY

Thusting behavior may be defined as the willingness to risk beneficial or harmful consequences by making oneself vulnerable to other group member.
Thustworthy behavior may be defined as the willingness to respond to other person’s risk-taking in a way that ensures that the person will experience beneficial consequences.
Ketika kamu ingin meningkatkan kepercayaan. When you want to increase trust, increase your trustworthiness. When you reciprocate self-disclosures, you increase thust and influence the other person  to be have even more self-disclosing. Reciprocating self-disclosures make oneself vulnerable to rejection, and the matual vulnerablility resulting when all members will be accepting ang supportive af the other.

Merusak kepercayaan
Distrust is difficult to change because it leads to the perseption that despite the other person’s attempts”make up” betrayal will recur in the future.
Merusak kepercayaan adalah tidak baik karena:
1.         When group members distrust other members to do their share of the work.
2.       When group member cannot trust each other, they often compete simply to defend their own best interest.
3.       Ketidakpercayaan akan menimbulkan konflik.
Tingkah laku yang dapat merusak kepercayaan:
1.         Increase positive outcome interdepence by establishing cooperative goals that are so compelling that everyone will join to achieve them.
2.       Increase their resource interdepence so that it is clear that no one person has a chance for succeeding on his or her own.
3.       Openly and consistenly express their cooperative intentionas.
4.       Reestablish credibility by making certain that their action match their announced intentions.
5.       Be absolutely and consistently trustworthy in their dealing with each other.
6.       Periodically”test the water” by engaging in trusting actions ang making themselves vulnerable to the other members.
7.       Apologize sincerely and immediately when they inadvertently engage in untrustworthy action.
8.       Strive to build a “ tough but fair” reputation by:
a.       Initially and periodically responding cooperatively to other members who act competitively.
b.       Using a tit-for-tat strategi that matches the other person’s behavior if the others continue to compete.
There are person undoubtedly know who would behave in very unthustworthy ways if you made your self vulnerable to them.
Trust is appropriete only when you are relatively consident that the other person will behave in such a way that you will benefit rather that be harmed by your risk, or when you are reletively sure the other person will not exploit your vulnerability. In some situations, such as competitive ones, trust is not appropriate.
Trusting as a self-fulfilling prophecy
A self-fulfilling prophecyis is, in the beginning, a false definition of a situation that evolkes a bew behavior, one that makes it possible for the originally false impression to come true. The assumption you make about other people ang the way in which you then behave often influence how other people respond to you, thus creating self-fulfilling prophecies in your relationships. People usually conform to the expectations other have for them. If other people feel that you do not  trust them and expect them to violet your trust, they will often do so. If they believe that you them and expect them to be trustworthy, they will often behave that way. In building trust in a relationship, your expectations about the other person may influence how you act toward that person, thus setting up the possibility of a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Personal proclivity to trust
Although trust exists in relationships, not in people, there has been some attempt to measurse individual diffferences in willingness to trust other. Rotter(1971) developed to interpersonal trust scale to distinguish between people who have a tendency to trust and those who tend to trust. A high truster tends to say,”I will trust a person until I have clear evidence that he or she cannot be trusted”. A low truster tends to say,”I will not trust a person untilthere is clear avidence that he or she can be trusted ”. high truster tend to be more trustworthy than will low trusters.
